They say that it’s impossible not to get emotional at Mugello. It all starts in front of the famous red helmet, when you first get to hear the engines roar. On Saturday we went there for the first Euro4 round and Formula Regional, so now we can tell you everything about the backstage action of one of the most emotionally tough racing weekends.
Everyone, from the teams to the drivers and the marshalls, got back on track right one week after the Spa tragedy. They all had one sentence on their minds, written on the front wings and helmets, we’re “Racing for Dilano“. Hands and eyes up to the sky, mourning bands on their arms. It’s hard to find the words when there are none to describe the void left by the death of a boy who was about to turn 19 years old. A minute of silence before the formation lap. Someone, still shaken, keeps repeating that “Motorsport is dangerous“, whilst we swear that no more lives will be taken away at Kemmel.
And still we all keep on living it with the same passion
This sport teaches us to race, to go faster than light. This concerns not only the drivers, but also the great paddock-machine that works non stop. There’s no time to sit down and think. We need to race, to be fast, also in the name of those who aren’t with us anymore. To analyse, to keep talking about safety when a week ago there weren’t the conditions to race, because of the rain and water on track. This is the biggest prayer, the biggest tribute, it does justice to Dilano’s dream, and to the dream of many drivers before him.
From the media room to the pit-lane and to the back of the podium. We walked the whole circuit, but our minds were onto something bigger. At Mugello we met and saw many people, we shared our stories and we talked about Mult1formula with those who live this sport every day, those who made its history.
From Giancarlo Fisichella to Emerson Fittipaldi; to all the young drivers, boys and girls, that we’ve been able to interview. Vicky Piria welcomed us in her box, letting us even get in her competition Porsche.
But the paddock isn’t only made of drivers and team members
In fact we also got the chance to share the pit wall and the media room with the Italian racing content creators Tonio (@tonioofficial_ on Instagram) and Simone Landi (@simone_landi_race on Instagram). They were so dedicated to the sport that for us it was indeed amazing to be able to share our experience and work with people who have our same passion, and who we’d define as colleagues. So, if you are looking for more insights about the ACI Weekend at Mugello, we invite you to check their videos out!
How did we live the paddock experience?
We knew we had a huge privilege and responsibility: to narrate this sport to the younger generations. But we also tried to give the chance to those who live in the Motorsport world to speak their hearts out, even in the darkest weekend. Live, write, share. Still the biggest duty is to keep on going, without forgetting who was here before us.
This is our goal here at Mult1formula. And this was our experience at the Aci Racing Weekend at Mugello.
