F2 and F3: the Highlights of the Austrian GP

While there’s much ado about Formula 1 and what happened during the weekend in Austria, let’s not forget about our favourite support series: F2 and F3. Austrian GP F2 F3

Formula 2: Bearman and Bortoleto take the win in the Austrian round Austrian GP F2 F3

We knew the Formula 2 weekend was going to be interesting since quali, as the gap between the first and the last driver of the session was less than a second.

During the Sprint Race, Bearman had a great start, leading the pack since Turn 2. Right behind him was Pepe Martì, who followed in close distance but couldn’t ultimately make the pass.

The real fight was in the rear. Hauger, Bortoleto and Aron all wanted the third place but it was the Estonian who won.

On Sunday, things went quite differently. It sure was an unlucky Feature Race for four different drivers (Hauger, Maini, Crawford and Maloney) who stalled, Kimi Antonelli having issues during the pit stop and Oliver Bearman having to retire.

Also, a lot of penalties given but surprisingly not because of track limits! At the end of the race we see Gabriel Bortoleto on the highest step of the podium, followed by Colapinto and Hadjar.

At the end of the Austrian weekend, the Formula 2 Driver Standings remain unchanged. On top there’s rookie driver Paul Aron, with 117 points, and Isack Hadjar right behind him, with 106 points. On third position we have Gabriel Bortoleto (85 points), ten points ahead of Maloney.

Formula 3: Austrian triumph for Tsolov and Browning

Saturday the winner is Nikola Tsolov, on a high after the Monaco win. He had a great race, getting on the lead on Lap 5 and fighting a persistent Christian Mansell.

The Australian had to settle for third place, as Martinus Stenshorne managed to get the second spot.

The Feature Race on Sunday was much more exciting with Minì, Browning, Lindblad and Beganovic all fighting for those top 3 finishes.

After twenty six rounds, a Virtual Safety Car and countless overtakes, the podium place were taken by Browning, Minì and Beganovic.

After the Austrian GP, the fight for the Championship is still open, with Browning leading with 106 points. Right behind him, the two Italians: Gabriele Minì (95 points) and Leonardo Fornaroli (86 points).

Well… what more can we say? See you all in Silverstone!
