8 Jahre nach dem Karriereende seines Vaters Michael Schumacher, schaffte es Mick Schumacher 2021 ebenfalls in die Formel 1. Die Freude und Erwartungen der deutschen Fans waren groß nachdem der Wechsel zum amerikanischen Team Haas im Dezember 2020 bekannt gegeben wurde.
Ein Jahr später lässt sich sagen, dass das erste Jahr ein schweres und vielleicht auch nicht komplett zufriedenstellendes war. Viele Deutsche hatten mehr erwartet, auch weil man Mick oft mit seinem Vater vergleicht. Doch kann man das überhaupt? Ich würde sagen nein. Beide fahren in einer komplett unterschiedlichen Ära der Formel 1. Andere Autos, andere Motoren und eine große Weiterentwicklung aller wichtigen Faktoren.
“Aber sein Vater konnte auch sofort mit dem Auto umgehen und gewinnen.“, “Wenn er sich nicht verbessert, wird das nichts in der Formel 1.“ sind nur einige Kommentare, die in Diskussionen mit anderen deutschen Fans gefallen sind. Natürlich kann man darüber nun streiten, wenn die Saison mit 0 Punkten beendet wird. Aber man muss meiner Meinung nach auch das Gesamte sehen. Wenn man regelmäßig mit sehr großem Vorsprung vor seinem Teamkollegen landet, der das gleiche Auto und damit mit den gleichen Vorraussetzungen fährt, kann man nicht so schlecht sein… Und auch die beiden Q2 sind extrem hoch anzurechnen.
Alles in allem würde ich sagen, dass die erste Saison in Ordnung war. Mick konnte sicherlich viel lernen, viele Erfahrungen sammeln und diese in ein paar Jahren in einem besseren Team auch anwenden können. Dessen, dass er dort früher oder später landen wird, bin ich mir ziemlich sicher.
Hoffentlich finden dann auch mehr Menschen in Deutschland ihre Liebe zur Formel 1 wieder. Und vielleicht sehen wir irgendwann auch wieder einen Grand Prix in Deutschland… Mit Mick Schumacher… Zu wünschen wäre es.

It’s been 8 years after the end of Michael Schumacher career, one of the greatest driver of all time. But to continue his legacy, his son Mick Schumacher made it to Formula 1 in 2021. The move to the American team Haas was announced in December 2020 and the excitement and expectations from the German fans were high.
One year later you can say that his first year was a intricate and maybe not completely satisfying one. Many Germans expected more, mainly because they often compare Mick to his dad. But can you really do that? I would say you can’t. Both drove in completely different eras of Formula 1, different cars, engines and a huge development of important factors.
“But his dad was able to deal with the car and win immediately aswell. […] If he doesn’t improve, that’s not gonna work in Formula 1.“ These are just some comments, I’ve heard in discussions with other German fans. Of course you can argue about that, if the season gets finished with 0 points. But of course you have to see it as a whole. If you regularly finish in front of your teammate, who’s got the same car and with the same requirements, with a big gap, you can’t be that bad… And also the two Q2 appearances have to be credited with such a mediocre car which was the Haas VF-21.
All in all , the first season was pretty decent. Mick was able to learn a lot and get a lot of experience he can use in a better team in a few years. He will definitely drive one of them sooner or later, is pretty sure.
Hopefully more Germans will find their love for Formula 1 again then. And maybe we’ll see a German GP again one day… with Mick Schumacher.
It’s something to wish for.
